Maintenance tips

Brikbikes are low-maintenance bikes, but this doesn’t mean that our bikes don’t need maintenance. You never have to lubricate or tension a chain to properly maintain your Brikbike! But what does need maintenance? Read our tips here to keep your Brik in top condition.

General maintenance

Apply anti-rust spray to the bolts and buts and regurarly spray the entire bicycle with silicone spray and rub it out with a cotton cloth. Dirt adheres poorly to silicone, so your Brikbike will stay beautiful for longer.

Shaft drive maintenance

Hardly any maintenance is required on a shaft drive. After all, it is a closed system and the oil (HPG SAE 80W-90 GL5) in the system is adapted to this. Since there is no dirt or moisture in the bottom bracket, this oil never needs to be replaced. A few things to watch out for:

  1. We recommend checking at every service whether the steel ring that holds the cardan in the bottom bracket shell is still secure. To do this, first loosen the two locking screws.
  2. The mounting at the back must also be tight. Make sure the rear sprockets are well greased. A grease that stays in place can be used for this, we recommend Cyclon MTB Grease ball bearing for this. To lubricate the rear sprocket, the gray cover must be removed. This can be done by removing the two screws that hold the cover in place.
  3. In some cases you will also need to remove the shifting mechanism. This can be done by loosening the nut on the top. Now the switching mechanism can be removed from the shaft.

Remove rust on bottom bracket

The bottom bracket is made of untreated hardened steel and can develop surface rust over time. There is absolutely no harm in this and can be remedied by spraying it with an anti-rust spray.

Gear adjustment

Adjusting a Brik with 3, 7 or 8 gears is a simple job.

Remove rear wheel

Disassembling the rear wheel is very simple, and can be done without removing the shaft drive.

Disassemble

Turn some screws and the wheel bolts and the wheel can be removed.

Be careful before you do it wheel from how the rings are on the axle (on the inside or on the outside). This is important when you reassemble the wheel.

Reassemble

Since the wheel only fits one way, putting it back is easy too. To maintain a smooth and noiseless drive, you have to reassemble the rings on the shaft in exactly the same way.
