A good bike deserves a long life. At Brikbikes, we don’t believe in throwing away what can still be repaired — we believe in craftsmanship, in parts that deserve to keep turning, and in bikes that last for generations. That’s why, alongside maintenance, we also offer a full refurbishing service for existing Brik models. The result: a bike that looks like new again, rides like new again, for an investment that’s considerably lower than buying a new bike.

Why refurbish?

Bikes that have been in use for years have earned their wear. A matte coating that’s lost some of its shine, a hub that shifts a bit rougher than it used to, bearings that have seen better days — these are all signs of a bike that has done its job faithfully. But that doesn’t mean the end of the road is in sight. Underneath that wear, there’s often still a frame and a drivetrain well worth fully reconditioning.

For Brikbikes, that’s a matter of principle. A bike that’s been around for a while deserves to stay on the road. By choosing refurbishing over replacement, we give our bikes a fair shot at a second life — and contribute to a bike fleet that gets scrapped less quickly.

How does a refurbishing project work?

A refurbishing project at Brikbikes is not a superficial touch-up. It’s a thorough process in which we bring the bike back to a like-new condition — part by part.

Full cleaning and inspection
- We start every project with a complete cleaning of the bike. Only once everything is clean does it really become visible what’s needed. Based on that, we draw up a specific plan: which parts can stay, which need to be reconditioned, and which are due for replacement. This way, the refurbishing always remains a reasonable investment, tailored to the bike’s actual condition.
Disassembly down to the component level
- Next, we disassemble all the relevant parts of the bike. By taking everything apart, we can assess and treat each component individually — something that’s never possible with surface-level maintenance.
Thorough cleaning of every part
- Each part is cleaned thoroughly on its own. Dirt, grease, and corrosion that have built up over the years are completely removed.
Replacing what can no longer be repaired
- Parts that are broken or can no longer be reliably repaired are replaced with new ones. This keeps the bike technically up to date and safe, without unnecessarily swapping out parts that still work perfectly fine.
Repainting and recoating
- Frame parts and other components that have lost their looks are repainted or recoated. This restores the bike’s original appearance — sharp, colour-fast, and completely itself again.

Reconditioning the technology: cardan shaft and bicycle hub

A bike is only truly renewed once the technology under the hood is also back up to standard. That’s why we specifically recondition components like the cardan shaft and the bicycle hub — the parts that most determine how a bike feels while riding. A smoothly running hub and a properly adjusted cardan shaft make the difference between a bike that “still sort of works” and a bike that feels the way it did on the day it was new.

All moving parts in the bike are thoroughly addressed in this process: they’re lubricated or, where needed, fitted with new bearings. That applies not only to the hub and the cardan shaft, but to every part where friction and movement come together.

Reassembled using the same process as a new bike

Once all parts have been reconditioned, replaced, or renewed, we fully reassemble the bike. We don’t treat this as a quick repair job, but follow exactly the same process as when we assemble a brand-new Brikbike. Every nut, every cable, and every adjustment gets the same careful attention as a bike fresh off the production line.

After reassembly comes an extensive final inspection. Only once the bike meets all our quality standards do we deliver it — as a fully renewed, existing Brikbike.

Years of riding pleasure, many more kilometres to go

The result of a refurbishing project is a bike that’s ready for years of use again, with plenty of kilometres still ahead of it. For the owner, that means renewed confidence in the bike, without the price tag of a brand-new purchase.
