As with any bike, it’s important that you properly maintain your Brikbike. Except that you never have to lubricate and tighten a chain for your Brikbike! What do you still need to do? Read our tips to help you keep your Brik in top condition.
Apply anti-corrosion spray to the bolts and nuts and regularly spray the entire bike with silicone spray and apply it with a cotton cloth. Dirt does not adhere easily to silicone, so your Brikbike will stay in its pristine state for longer.
A driveshaft hardly requires any maintenance. After all, it’s a closed system and the oil (HPG SAE 80W-90 GL5) in the system has been adapted accordingly. Since there is no dirt or moisture in the bottom bracket, this oil never has to be replaced. There are a few things to watch out for:
- We advise you to check that the steel ring that holds the shafte in the bb shell is still securely fastened during each service. To do this, first loosen the two locking screws.
- The fastening on the back must also be securely attached. Make sure that the rear sprockets are well lubricated. A grease that stays in place can be used for this, we recommend Cyclon MTB Grease for this. To lubricate the rear sprocket, the grey cover must be removed. This can be done by removing the two screws that hold the cap in place.
- In some cases, you also have to remove the switch mechanism. This can be done by loosening the nut on the top side. Now you can remove the switch mechanism from the shaft.
Removing rust on the bottom bracket
The bottom bracket is made of untreated hardened steel and over time it may get surface-rust on it. This won’t do any harm but can be remedied by spraying it with an anti-corrosion spray.
Adjusting a BRIK with 3, 7 or 8 gears is a simple job.
Removing the rear wheel
Removing the rear wheel is very easy, and can be done without removing the driveshaft.
Loosen a few screws and the wheel bolts, and the wheel can be removed.
Before removing the wheel, remember to note how the rings are on the axle (on the inside or on the outside). This is important when you reassemble the wheel.
Since the wheel only fits one way, it’s also easy to put it back in place. To maintain a smooth and quiet drive, you need to reassemble the rings on the axle in exactly the way it was.
