Drive shaft

Several Brikbike models are equipped with a drive shaft. We favour this drive because it is low-maintenance and very durable.

Advantages of a drive shaft

A drive shaft has several advantages over a regular chain drive:

A drive shaft requires less maintenance because you do not have to lubricate or tighten it.
The drive shaft hardly suffers at all and is therefore suitable for intensive use.
No chains that get dirty, so you don’t need a chain guard.

Also, you can still remove the wheel and choose different gears for the drive shaft.

The drive shaft is a bit heavier than a chain drive. This makes the bike a bit heavier. You can test this during a test ride.

How does the drive shaft work?

A drive shaft consists of a propeller shaft and a universal joint on both sides. When you pedal, a universal joint drives the propeller shaft. This, in turn, drives another universal joint that rotates the wheel.
